The Mersey Lightvessel Preservation Society was a registered charity whose aim was to preserve the old Bar Lightvessel "Planet" for the people of Merseyside. When the "Planet" was sold to a private buyer, there was no longer any prospect of it being opened to the public and the aims of the charity could no longer be realised. The members decided at a meeting held on 24 November 2007 that the Society should be dissolved on 31 December 2007.

The MLPS did a lot of research - financed by the Lottery Heritage Fund - into the history of the Mersey Lightvessels. DVDs were made describing this history and a copy donated to all public libraries on Merseyside. A summary of that research is available HERE.

Remaining funds held by the MLPS at the time of its dissolution, are to be donated to a like-minded charity - the
Daniel Adamson Preservation Society who are now well down the road to successfully restoring the last surviving steam-powered passenger-carrying tug-tender. Money donated to preserve the "Planet" will therefore go to a worthy cause.

All persons who were members of the MLPS on 31st December 2007 are invited to join the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society (free of charge for the first year). If you have not received an application form (or if you have lost the form) please telephone 01704 878479 to arrange for a form to be posted to you.
